Phil Stephenson joined the 36th Entry at Halton in 1938 as an Apprentice Airframe Fitter. Throughout his service (he retired in 1948) he was recognised as a talented artist and when he wasn't fixing aircraft could be found chronicling his career by painting scenes of what he saw around him and, in the process, producing a remarkable piece of aviation history. Following his death in 1997 a box of memorabilia was delivered to the Archive and within was an envelope which contained a collection of Phil's paintings some of which recorded the life and times at RAF Halton in the late 30s and the early years of WW2 and his first postings. They are presented here for the appreciation of a wider audience.
